Did ya notice the title? “Smile :p” is “simple” scrambled… okay maybe that’s really cheesy but it gets the job done for what I’m proposing.
Studies say that it takes more muscles to frown than to smile. Well that’s a lie. Yup – I said it… and yes, I did do my research and it shows that 12 muscles are used to smile whilst only 11 are used to frown. The difference here is that we are born with the ability to “smile” and that we don’t need to learn it.. Even blind babies smile 🙂
What’s the point of this blog? I did a little test to see the difference between smiling and frowning. I was shocked to see the results, walking around NYC with a frown on my face for a day was possibly the worst day of my life (exaggerating much) But honestly, I was filled more with negativity and to top it all, I kept seeing problems with people, transportation, time, even my own well being.
BUT the very next day, I did the same walk with a smile on my face (no it wasn’t creepy) But even a smallest change in mindset of a smile as you’re walking these streets brought in solutions to the problems that were raised the day before. The best part was that there was a glow which others noticed. Random tourists approached me to ask for directions. People inside coffee shops decided to have a chat simply based on the sticker that is behind my laptop. And for some odd reason, I had more energy through out my day than the previous day.
My challenge to you is, choose to smile today. Yea the circumstances might be against that, the situation might be compromising, CHOOSE to smile. Do it in the mirror first thing in the morning and watch the whole day change, no matter rain or shine!
A simple but powerful experiment, it’s good to know that positivity made an impact 🙂
