To the person reading this, I may or may not know you. I may or may not know what you do in life when it comes to making a living or studying or well, what else is there? But I do know this – whatever you do/want to do OR whoever you are/want to be, you will need to invest.
This term “invest” has turned into a monetary term (not saying that you cannot apply it in that aspect) People freak out from the moment they hear it. They think, ‘oh its about money’ and close their ears. But those who truly understand what the term means, you know well enough – that it is not just about money alone. In fact, its more than just money. It means sacrifice. It means setting aside. It means putting towards (in addition to…) This term refers to time, energy, resources, friendships, relationships, things “money cannot buy”
Let me give you a classic example. I am a writer. I am not a good writer. There might be typos and errors all along this blog. I don’t like to write. But I see myself as a writer. I don’t always write. I actually can’t stand writing. But I know who I want to become and I know THAT involves writing. I want my writing to be out there, not books or magazine articles, but on the internet. Not for self recognition, but I want the real me to be portrayed while I’m either on or off platform AND in and through my writings. I realized Facebook and Instagram wasn’t enough for my writing. So, I looked into blogs. I absolutely hate blogs. I don’t like reading them, I don’t like writing them. I feel honored that you’re currently reading my writing at this moment. In 2014, I tried a popular blogging website. Got a few hundred hits. 2 years later, it got boring. I knew my potential, but I knew that THAT website wouldn’t get me far. I needed to make an initial investment into THIS website.
Could I do it? yes. Was it affordable? yes. Could I have done this 2 years ago? yes. Why didn’t I? because I thought it would be a waste of time. Is THIS initial investment worth my time? absolutely. You’re probably thinking, “where is he getting at?” I have a point. Some of you already have figured it out. If you want to be a painter, your initial investment will be in art classes AND paintbrushes. If you want to be a doctor, your initial investment will be in medical school AND books. If you want to be a musician, your initial investment will be in private lessons AND an instrument.
Your God-given gift will create an avenue for that initial investment, however its up to you if you wanna walk along that avenue. THAT’S YOUR PART. You’re gonna have to decide and do it. Here’s a tip from a rookie: don’t look back, look forward. It’s the age-old remedy, you reap what you sow. Once you make that initial investment, you have no idea the reward that’s waiting on the other side.
